What Is Cheap Health Insurance?

Pretty much everyone looking to buy any type of insurance looks at the cost of that insurance as being the main factor in determining whether or not to purchase it, and this is certainly true of health insurance as well.

Some people will look at the financial stability of the company as being an important issue as well, but for many people they take it as granted that the insurance company will be around long enough to pay for any claim that they might have.

Cheap health insurance is something that for many people is a necessity rather than a luxury. For many people a health insurance plan or policy is a lifeline that they know they are going to need one day, and being able to afford it at a reasonable price is something that they desperately want and need.

For people who cannot afford to buy any type of health insurance policy or plan, their dilemma is even more severe, and they desperately need some type of cheap health insurance plan or policy that they can rely on.

The premium for a health insurance plan is in fact only one element of the reality of what people mean by cheap health insurance. For most types of insurance the cost is really the only amount a policyholder will pay by way of a premium, but this is not the case with health insurance.

Insurance Premiums

Health insurance plans and policies are by far the most complicated to understand and be clear about precisely what is covered, what is not covered and at what cost. Insurance companies are incredibly specific down to an inordinate amount of detail about the level of benefits and the various costs involved.

In addition there are three other major areas of cost that affect a health insurance plan or policy. These are what are known as deductibles, co-pay and Co-insurance. Most people understand the principle of a deductible in insurance policies, but in health insurance policies the amounts involved are significantly more proportionately, than they are in other types of insurance.

In addition the levels of deductible can vary widely within the policy, with different deductibles applying for the individual concerned, for the family and for different areas of the policy such as for prescription drugs etc. Some policies will offer the type of rebate on deductibles if they are not used, similar to a no claims bonus in auto/car insurance but this is rare.

The other major cost of a health insurance policy is that of Coinsurance. This is a percentage of all treatment costs that the policyholder will have to pay in relation to the insurance company and can range from 20% of costs through to 100% of costs.
